Hello from Agnes & Dani
Potter & Reid was born out of our love of food, drinks and hospitality and the unique way these things can bring people together.
We met in 2010 while working together at East London’s iconic Allpress on Redchurch Street where we both experienced how this cafe changed the fabric of the neighbourhood giving the local makers, creators, and residents a meeting place to collaborate, rest and replenish. Both completely new to London it is also where we established our first friendships with colleagues, customers and became part of a community.
During our time working at the café we spent many hours, dreaming up, over a glass of wine or two, our own take on the ultimate neighbourhood café. This is what the two facing chairs in our logo represent. We always had strong opinions about what a neighbourhood cafe should encapsulate - Potter & Reid is all about outstanding coffee, quality, nourishing food and a true sense of community where everyone is welcomed with the same warmth and openness.
We’ve poured over 30 years of eating, drinking and hospitality experience into Potter & Reid and we hope you love it as much as we do.
Potter & Reid Food
Our food is headed up by Sarah Dunnington who brings over 15 years of culinary experience, driven by their passion for making food that is simple, delicious, and accessible. Originally from Canada, they studied French pastry at Le Cordon Bleu and worked at a number of cafes and restaurants in Montréal.
After moving to London in 2018, they joined e5 Bakehouse, where they focused on the art of viennoiserie and most recently was at Esters, where they baked, managed the kitchen, and developed creative ways to elevate everyday dishes.
At Potter and Reid, they celebrate the best of Italian & English produce, crafting, seasonal food that’s approachable, full of flavor, and rooted in community. Simple, comforting and delicious dishes are available throughout the day; menu items differ weekly reflecting the change in seasons and thus ingredients available. With a nod to Italian, lunch consists of a couple of irresistible sandwich choices as well as a chalk board of weekly changing lunch plates. Sarah’s hope for the food is that it brings nourishment and comfort to the Potter & Reid community.
There is always fresh daily baking, including brown butter friands, quince and frangipane galettes, or a perfectly executed salted chocolate chip cookies.
Potter & Reid Coffee
Nothing is more important than coffee which is a house blend from Dalston based Allpress Espresso best enjoyed at the beautiful marble countertop.
There is a monthly changing selection of single origin filter coffees and a range of coffee beans which can be purchased to take home.
Coffee is always prepared with love and a lot of skill by super talented and friendly baristas.
Potter & Reid Home
Shelves containing coffee beans for home brewing, a small but hand-picked selection of natural wines, house preserves and other simple ‘dinner party’ provisions are available to buy in store. The wines are also available to enjoy in the café.
